MEC intervenes at Philadelphia Hospital

The Limpopo Health MEC identified shortcomings and serious concerns after a visit to the Philadelphia Hospital.

Limpopo Health MEC Dieketseng Mashego’s recent visit to Philadelphia Hospital identified serious areas of concern, including poor cleanliness in and around the facility, and inadequate management of patients’ records.

The MEC said the challenges compromise the dignity of patients, their safety, and the overall quality of healthcare, and therefore, require urgent intervention.

Mashego immediately requested support from Mankweng Tertiary Hospital to assist Philadelphia Hospital in addressing the identified shortcomings.

Neil Shikwambana, departmental spokesperson, indicated that a multidisciplinary team comprising management, administrators, cleaners, and groundsmen descended to the hospital on December 22, acting on the directive to provide hands-on support.

“The team conducted a walkabout at the hospital’s outpatient and casualty departments, and the laundry and kitchen, cleaned the facility, cut and cleared grass, improved the surroundings and shared best practices on cleanliness, file management, and creating a welcoming and user-friendly environment for patients and the surrounding community,” Shikwambana shared.

Mashego stressed that cleanliness must be maintained at all times and the hospital must consistently deliver quality healthcare services.

The MEC further indicated that Mankweng Tertiary Hospital will continue to provide ongoing support and monitor progress to ensure sustained improvement at Philadelphia Hospital.
