Mayor urges women, disabled SMMEs to get involved

Women and people living with disabilities within Fetakgomo Tubatse have been encouraged to participate in the local municipality’s economic development activities.

The call was made during a Mayoral Engagement Session with SMMEs held last Wednesday at the municipal chamber in Burgersfort.

Mahlako Komane, municipal spokesperson, said the gathering forms part of the ongoing institution’s efforts to strengthen stakeholder relations and create an enabling environment for local economic development.

Business owners were provided a platform to engage directly with Mayor Eddie Maila and the municipal leadership on matters relating to institutional support, opportunities for collaboration, and challenges affecting local enterprises.

Maila stressed the SMMEs’ significant role in driving economic growth, job creation, and inclusive development within the sub-region.

The mayor stated that SMMEs, particularly women-led businesses, are critical partners in building a resilient local economy.

“This engagement allows us to listen, learn, and work together towards practical solutions that support business growth and sustainability,” Maila said.

The session provided local businesses with clear information, improved access to municipal opportunities, and direct engagement with political and administrative leadership.

The institution’s Local Economic Development Department and Supply Chain Management Unit made presentations that outlined the requirements and processes followed for SMMEs to access business opportunities, including compliance, registration, and procurement-related matters.
