Mayor rewards top learners during back-to-school drive

Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality’s mayor reiterated that education remains a collective issue during back-to-school programme.

Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality Mayor Given Moimana embarked on a back-to-school programme on Monday.

The mayor started the campaign at his alma mater, Mahlakodishe Secondary School in Ga-Matlala Ramoshebo Village in Ward 5.

The school obtained a pass rate of 81% in the 2025 National Senior Certificate examinations, from 61% in 2024.

Moimana presented laptops and educational items to the top 10 matric learners of the school.

He expressed his gratitude to educators, school governing body members, traditional leaders, and all stakeholders for their dedication to ensuring quality education.

Moimana extended the programme to Makwetle Secondary School in Ward 13, Disenyane Village, on Tuesday as part of the campaign.

Makwetle Secondary School achieved a 100% pass rate, from 97% in 2024.

The mayor donated 10 tablets to the school to promote academic excellence and ensure continued support for the learners and educators.

“Education of learners remains a collective issue. We appreciate when we see our traditional leaders, local SAPS, parents, and community members drawing interest to the operation of our schools for better results and conduct,” said Moimana.
