Mayor completes two years in office

The Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality is praised for the love and compassion that she displays towards the needy and underserved.

Executive mayors have come and gone in Sekhukhune District, but none of them have been described as more in touch with the daily tribulations of the masses like the reigning Minah Bahula.

Affectionately known as Mmago Noah (The biblical Noah’s mother), Bahula has championed several programmes that directly impact the people of the region.

She is praised for the love and compassion that she continues to display towards the needy and underserved since her assumption of office.

The executive, who is also the ANC Sekhukhune Regional Chairperson, assumed responsibility at the helm of Sekhukhune District Municipality in 2023 and continues to demonstrate dedicated leadership and unwavering commitment to service delivery to development communities.

Her initiative of installing boreholes as an interim relief measure in communities with no water, has been widely welcomed, especially by local traditional authorities.

During 2024, Bahula committed to providing all traditional authorities with well-equipped boreholes, an undertaking she has continually delivered, with functioning boreholes handed over to traditional leaders in various parts of the region.

The initiative comes after the municipality noted that most of its bulk water schemes are confronted by challenges that need long-term solutions.

The borehole programme recently benefitted thankful residents in Mphanama Village in Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality, from which 750 households, including those in Sebayeng, Mogorogorong, and Mmauane sections, will benefit.

The executive mayor also introduced borehole contractors to traditional authorities in Strydkraal, Ga-Nkoana, and Ga-Nchabeleng villages in October last year, marking the continuation of the service delivery milestone.

She continued to lead the Executive Mayor’s Food Drive programme between December and January, which benefitted about 1 400 needy families and also covered child-headed households, struggle veterans, and traditional leaders across the district.

Bahula has further managed to improve conditional grant spending and unlock infrastructure projects.

She extended her appreciation to all stakeholders, communities, employees and members of the Sekhukhune District Council for their continued partnership and support.

“Your collaboration remains fundamental to our progress. Together, we continue with the journey of changing lives,” she said.
