Funded youth-led enterprises monitored
Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality and the NYDA visits youth-owned enterprises that benefitted through financial support.
Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality and the National Youth Development Agency’s (NYDA) on-site visits to youth-owned enterprises that previously benefitted through financial support from the Makhuduthamaga Youth Fund are underway.
Thomas Mashabela, municipal spokesperson, said the post-funding disbursement monitoring programme demonstrates the commitment by the municipality and NYDA to youth empowerment.
Mashabela indicated that the monitoring process aims to assess the utilisation of funds, measure progress of the businesses to ensure accountability and identify areas where additional support and mentorship may be required.
“The outcomes of these visits highlight the positive impact of youth funding. The funding enables young entrepreneurs to build sustainable enterprises, create employment opportunities and contribute meaningfully to local economic development,” Mashabela stated.
He added that the municipality, together with the agency, remains resolute in investing in youth-led businesses as a strategic pillar for building a resilient and prosperous local economy.
“Plans for the launch of the second phase of the funding programme are underway, and a big announcement will be made soon,” Mashabela shared.
A team of officials from the municipality and the agency visited three benefitting youth-owned businesses on Monday in Ga-Marishane Village and Jane Furse.
An amount of R2m was channelled towards the initiative in the 2024/2025 financial year following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the institution and the agency.
Mayor Merah Mahlase encouraged young people to grab the opportunity offered by the funding initiative, with threshold one offering up to R10 000 and threshold two, up to R50 000.
The beneficiaries lauded the municipality and the agency for empowering them and ensuring the well-being of their businesses.
