Life sentence for man who murdered girlfriend

A 35-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend, with police arresting him a day after her body was discovered.

The Nebo Regional Court sentenced Themba Mashiloane (35) to life imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend, Refiloe Letshedi (26).

Mashiloane was found guilty of murder and sentenced last Tuesday following investigations that linked him to the crime.

According to the police, members of the Nebo-Jane Furse Tracking Team responded to the discovery of Refiloe’s body in Thabaneng Village on the evening of September 26, 2024. Subsequent investigations identified Mashiloane as the prime suspect.

He was arrested the next day and found in possession of Refiloe’s cellphone. Bail was successfully opposed, and he remained in custody until sentencing.

Investigations further revealed that Refiloe attempted to end her relationship with Mashiloane, who allegedly refused to accept the break-up.

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the sentence, describing it as a step towards justice for Refiloe and her family.
