Hijacked grader recovered in Dennilton

MEC warns would-be criminals to steer clear of department’s fleet, saying all vehicles are fitted with tracking devices.

The Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure has confirmed that the CAT grader that was hijacked in Bela-Bela yesterday was recovered in Dennilton last night.

Department spokesperson Emmanuel Mongwe said the yellow machine was hijacked at a site where it was being used.

The operator of the grader was found safe and unharmed, although Mongwe said further details regarding where he was found would be communicated by the police at some point.

A suspect was arrested following the machine’s recovery.

The MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Ernest Rachoene, praised the swift response by the police and other stakeholders involved in tracking down the grader.

“We would like to take this opportunity to appreciate the good work done by the SAPS and other role players in tracking this valuable asset,” said Rachoene.

“We further warn would-be criminals who are targeting our fleet to stop because there are high security systems fitted onto all our fleet.”
