Ben Viljoen orators impress

Learners at Hoërskool Ben Viljoen showcased confidence, creativity and strong communication skills during the school’s English Orators Competition.

The staff room at Hoërskool Ben Viljoen was transformed into a lively stage for talented young speakers last Wednesday during the school’s English Orators Competition.

Learners impressed adjudicators and fellow participants alike with well-prepared speeches, confident delivery, and thought-provoking viewpoints.

The competition once again highlighted the strong public speaking talent developing at the school.

Junior participants tackled mentor, weeds, and tendency themes. Despite the complexity of the topics, speakers approached them creatively and shared unique personal perspectives that reflected maturity and critical thinking.

Senior learners, meanwhile, demonstrated strong argumentation skills while addressing postscript, risk, and polemic themes. Their speeches offered insightful viewpoints and showcased the ability to engage deeply with demanding subjects.

What made the competition particularly memorable was the authenticity with which learners approached their topics. Each speaker brought honest, fresh and, at times, surprising perspectives through the eyes of a teenager, making for an engaging and entertaining afternoon.

The overall standard of speaking was high, with participants displaying confidence, conviction and excellent preparation throughout.

The top achievers in the junior category were Jessica Nwadike in first place, followed by Reatile Kgaphola in second, and Loti Ledwaba in third.

In the senior category, Blessing Ratau claimed first place, while Theto Tlomatsana secured second place, and Moshopiadi Nchabeleng finished in third.

The competition once again proved the value of public speaking as a platform for learners to develop confidence, communication skills, and the courage to express their ideas.
