Council adopts new budget

The municipality says the annual IDP review ensures its development plans remain relevant.

Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality has approved its final Integrated Development Plan (IDP), annual budget, and related policies for the 2026/27 financial year.

The resolutions were adopted during a virtual Special Council Meeting held on May 28.

Municipal spokesperson Thomas Mashabela said the approved budget and plans are aligned with new projects and the municipality’s Service Delivery and Budget Implementation Plan targets for the upcoming financial year.

He explained that the IDP is reviewed annually to ensure it remains relevant as the municipality’s strategic planning document, guiding institutional and financial planning as well as development initiatives undertaken by all spheres of the government.

Mayor Merah Mahlase tabled the committee reports before council for consideration and approval.

Mashabela said the council also adopted the reviewed Spatial Planning and Land Use Management and Street Advertising By-laws in line with local government legislation.

The by-laws are aimed at managing spatial development, assessing land-use applications, regulating signage and addressing the proliferation of illegal advertising structures.

The council further approved a proposal to introduce billing for waste collection services in Jane Furse Vergelegen B.

The decision follows community consultations, assessment studies in the area, and benchmarking exercises conducted with neighbouring municipalities.

According to Mashabela, the introduction of waste collection billing is expected to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery to residential and business areas while creating additional revenue opportunities for the municipality.
