BMW i4 revealed as latest all-electric i model

Plans to bring the i4 to South Africa have so far not been announced.

On the back of the iX3 and controversial iX unveilings last year, BMW has added a sedan to its revised all-electric i line-up in the shape of the all-new i4.

Based on the 4 Series Gran Coupe, the newcomer, which has been spied undergoing pre-production testing on a number of occasions last year, retains the much maligned kidney grille that debuted first on the Concept 4 and then the production 4 Series as well as the new M3 and M4, albeit with model specific touches.

Sporting a blue outer surround, the grille, like on the iX3 and iX, is sealed bar the equally bespoke studded pattern. Additional unique touches are the blue accents on the bumpers at the base of the doors and on the front wheel arch vents, no exhaust outlets, so-called aero alloy wheels and flush door handles to aid aerodynamics.

Surprisingly, no details regarding the i4’s dynamics, dimensions or even images of the interior were divulged. Chances are that some if not all will be released over the coming weeks and months.

Munich did however release select details of the i4’s power unit; up to 390 kW with a claimed range of 590 km and 0-100 km/h in four seconds. The output is, however, attributed to the most powerful model which will likely wear the M Performance designation. More attainable but also less powerful versions will be added later.

For now, no mention has been made of the i4 coming to South Africa, but like the iX, expect a possible announcement to be made sooner rather than later.
