AA parts survey: Ford Ranger the big winner

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio emerged as the unexpected two-category top performer.

Ford Ranger took top honours in three sub-categories.

The Ford Ranger and Alfa Romeo Stelvio have emerged as the top ranking models in the first ever Spare Parts Pricing Guide tabled by the Automobile Association (AA).

Spanning ten categories and 63 vehicles with aspects taken into consideration comprising the actual price of the parts in question, body repair parts and maintenance, the Ranger, mainly in single-turbo 2.0 XLT guise, was found to offer the lowest costs of total parts and service in the light commercial double-cab category.

In 2.2 TDCi form, it also took top honours in latter category for single-cab commercial vehicles with the Isuzu D-Max denying it a clean sweep by taking the spoils in the former.

Contesting the Executive SUV segment, the Stelvio came out top in both with other class winners being the Datsun Go, Renault Kwid, Ford Figo, Lexus RX and Isuzu MU-X to name but a few.

“The AA Spare Parts Pricing Guide is important research consumers must be made aware of. Buyers often don’t consider the potential lifetime costs of vehicles at the time of purchase, and budgeting for these expenses is critical,” the AA said in a statement.

“Our research shows that more and more people are keeping their vehicles for longer due to prevailing economic conditions and personal finance circumstances; the information in our Guide is a critical component of proper research as part of buying a new or second-hand vehicle”.

In terms of the lowest rand value of total parts basket category, the top-rated models, excluding electric vehicles which were judged too early for consideration, were as follows:
