Ford Ranger XLT ‘cooled’ down with limited run Chill Grey touches

Seemingly, the Chill Grey will only be modelled on double cab versions of the regular Ranger XLT.

Ahead of its imminent line-up refresh, Ford has introduced another limited edition version of the Ranger based on the XLT trim grade.

Aesthetically changed

Only available on the double cab, the Chill Grey receives the bespoke colour that gives it its name, plus 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tyres.

Equipped with what Ford calls the XLT Pack 6, the Chill Grey further gets black door handles and mirror caps, a black grille, front and rear skidplates, and side-steps.

Also included is a wireless smartphone charger, leather seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Lane Keep Assist, Auto High Beam Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning.

Finale for bi-turbo?

Also not mentioned, expectations are that the Chill Grey will use both variants of the locally-made 2.0-litre Panther diesel engine.

Outputs, therefore, are again rated at 125kW/405Nm for the single turbo, and 154kW/500Nm for the outgoing bi-turbo.

As it stands, it is also unknown whether buyers will have the option of rear-wheel drive or only a part-time four-wheel-drive system.

Transmissions will consist of a six-speed automatic for the single-turbo model and a 10-speed automatic for the bi-turbo model.

Price

Priced at R58 500 over the normal XLT, production of the Ranger Chill Grey will be limited to 250 units.

Carried over from the XLT is the four-year/120 000 km warranty, with a six-year/90 000 km service plan being an option.

As a reminder, pricing for the standard double cab XLT, without the Chill Grey touches, are as follows:

  • Ranger 2.0 SiT XLT AT – R682 500
  • Ranger 2.0 SiT XLT 4×4 AT – R767 000
  • Ranger 2.0 BiT XLT AT – R802 000
  • Ranger 2.0 BiT XLT 4×4 AT – R889 500
