Pajero Sport 4×2 arrives

Mitsubishi Motors SA has introduced an important new derivative to its range of Pajero Sport full-size SUVs.

It is a very well equipped 4×2 model that has the latest 2.5-litre high-performance turbo diesel engine developing 131kW of power at 4 000rpm and 350Nm of torque at 1 800rpm.

This new engine is said to be particularly fuel efficient with a fuel consumption of only 8.5l/100km. This engine performs well, and as one of the higher torque engines in the class, delivers the goods on the highway and in the city.

“Of the full-sized SUVs – 4×2 is around 70% of the segment – the Pajero Sport 4×2 now really competes in that segment,” says Jaco Oosthuizen, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors SA. “Previously we were only in the 4×4 segment. The Pajero Sport is a fantastic vehicle and, now that we have a 4×2, we expect to dramatically increase our volumes.”

“The new addition to the face-lifted Pajero Sport 4×4 models introduced in September is particularly well equipped, while being the lowest priced of its direct competitors.

“Priced at R419 900 the Pajero Sport 4×2 offers outstanding value for money considering the level of standard equipment for comfort, convenience and safety, as well as the versatility of its variable arrangements for the second and third rows of seats.”

This new derivative also benefits from the eye-catching and bold new frontal styling and features such as colour-coded door handles and exterior rear-view mirrors, which now incorporate indicator repeaters. Wheels are more aggressively styled 17-inch alloys with 245/65 R17 tyres.

Oosthuizen says safety features include active stability and traction control, while Mitsubishi’s insistence on high levels of active and passive safety, means six airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS) and electronic brake distribution (EBD), as well as Mitsubishi’s characteristic RISE safety cell body structure.

Because of its luxury specification, it is available only with a five-speed automatic transmission. It leads its competitors by having paddle shifts on the steering wheel for those wanting to select gear ratios manually.

The latest Pajero Sport models will be available in a choice of five colours: Eisen Grey Mica, Cool Silver Metallic, Quartz Bronze Metallic, Medium Red and White Pearl. They are covered by a three-year / 100 000km warranty and five-year / 90 000km Service Plan.
