Round two of the 2014 South African Drag Racing Championship will see more than 120 of the country’s very fastest cars, motorcycles and trucks in action.
The Top Elimination fight will boast the A-Class rail dragsters of Dalmain Hattingh and Deon Swanepoel, plus the Top Alcohol Funny Cars of Werner Conradie and Nico van Rensburg, all capable of six second times and speeds of over 300 km/h in the standing start 400 metres.
The Senior Eliminator category will see current SA champion Gavin Wilkens (SpeedPro Mustang), taking on people like Kobus Kruger (SuperTest Mazda RX8 Turbo), Pieter Lombard (RacingBoys Mazda Rustler Rotary), Nico van Rensburg (Ford Thunderbird) and Sybie Coetzee with his turbocharged Nitrous fed Datsun.
Topping the Super Competition leaderboard will be Russell Slater (C-Dragster), Mark Slooten (Camaro), Eziel Esterhuysen (Honda) and Dawie Venter (Nissan).
Also in the hunt should be Johan van Zyl (8.5-litre Fuel Corvette) and Jannie Badenhorst in his turbocharged BranchWorx Opel Corsa.
Heading up the Street Eliminator category will be drivers like Ugan Naidoo (VW Golf), Chris Foley (Corolla), Henk Bannink (Audi), Dino Singh (VW Golf) and lady racer, Genevieve Geddes (Nissan).
Biker fans will also be spoilt with most of the country’s quickest and fastest drag bikes in action.
Top riders will include Wayne Heasman (Suzuki), Jerry Lombard (Suzuki), Zafar Hoosen (Suzuki), Shaun Breedt (Suzuki), taking on veteran Peter de la Rey on his lone BMW S1000RR.
Tarlton’s two Westinghouse Jet Cars will do two exhibition runs, driven by Nico van Rensburg and Shaun Watson, with their fire-belching startline show and mind-boggling speed worth the trip to the West Rand on its own.
Joining in the exhibition fun will be Marius Coetzee in the Leyland Matador 12-litre Twin Turbo V8 Drag Truck, versus Shaun Watson in his Turbocharged Ford Cargo V8 Drag Truck.
Admission will cost R100 per adult and R50.00 for kids (ages six to 12).
Tarlton offers plenty of free parking, with take-away food and refreshments available at the venue.
Gates will open at 7am and racing is set to start at around 8am.
