Aces/United settle for a draw

Aces came to this clash like a house on fire, showing early indications that they want all the three points.

Mpumalanga Black Aces were made to rue the clear cut goal scoring opportunities they squandered against top of the Absa Premier Soccer League table side, Supersport United who fought back to force a one all draw.

Played before an empty Mbombela stadium on Sunday, Amazayoni could have easily wrapped up the game in the first stanza but they wasted clear cut scoring opportunities and were later made to pay after United clinched a late equalizer forcing the game to end in a stalemate.

Dominated by Aces from the first whistle till the last, this one sided affair game produced nothing but flair, especially by the home team, Aces, who had a great game.

The home team looked the more threatening as early as the first 20 minutes and they could have taken the lead but Eduardo Ferreira’s efforts drew to a blank.

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker, Abia Nale then came close for Amazayoni on the 30th minute, finding himself through on goal but shot wide when it looked easier to find the back of the net.

A goal has been brewing for time now and when the chance presented itself, Mubhuti Khanyeza made no mistake a release a thunder which left United keeper, Rowen Fernandez helpless and beaten.

The second stanza was just the repeat and continuation of where Aces left off and again missing targets.

With time winding down, Supersport started to play like a team and were soon to be rewarded through a brilliant header by David Mathebula.Aces searched for that late winner, but it was too little too late and could only settle for a draw.
