Small earthquake hits northern Kruger National Park
Geoscience experts are reviewing a tremor after seismic information placed it in the vicinity of Phalaborwa.
A small earthquake was recorded in the northern Kruger National Park area on Saturday (September 19), reports Letaba Herald.
Initial seismic information places the event in the vicinity of Phalaborwa, although the exact location and magnitude are still subject to confirmation.
Magnitude still being confirmed
Early readings have put the earthquake at around magnitude 3, while one international earthquake-monitoring service has given a preliminary estimate of 4.1. The latter has not been confirmed.
The Council for Geoscience (CGS), which operates South Africa’s National Seismograph Network, cautions that earthquake parameters can be revised as seismic data is analysed.
No damage reported
There were no immediate reports of damage linked to the tremor.
