Alleged Rolex robbers shot, 1 killed
Wide-awake bodyguards foiled an alleged robbery in a busy Johannesburg street today.
An alleged armed robbery in Sandton left one suspect dead and another two injured when bodyguards opened fire on them.
Earlier today, alleged ‘Rolex gang’ members followed a victim to a hotel on Rivonia Road.
According to reports, bodyguards witnessed the attempted robbery and opened fire. One suspect was killed and another two were injured.
The original ‘Rolex gang’ plagued Johannesburg’s northern suburbs in 2014.
Betha Mphikeleni, Sipho Mabundla and George Mulaudzi were suspected of committing 12 robberies around the Sandton and Rosebank areas. On April 6, 2016, Judge Nomonde Mngqibisa found the trio guilty of nine armed robberies and the murder of their accomplice.
District police spokesperson and provincial police have been contacted for comment but it had not been received at the time of publishing.

One suspect escaped.
The suspects were driving a Grey Suzuki with no registration number.
The victim and bodyguards were driving together.
The shootout ended near the US Consulate offices and opposite Sandton City.
