Renault Duster-based Nissan Tekton confirmed for SA market

Nissan has reaffirmed its commitment to South Africa and teased the Tekton compact SUV, which is expected to arrive locally in 2026.

With the news that Chery will buy Nissan’s Rosslyn plant in 2026, Nissan has reassured its customers that the brand remains committed to offering services in SA, will continue to offer vehicles in our market, and introduce several new models to our shores in the coming 12 months. And the latter includes the Tekton compact SUV, which the automaker teased in October 2025.

The Tekton is based on the same Renault-Nissan Alliance CMF-B platform underpinning the Renault Duster, which we sampled in 4WD form in 2025. As such, we expect the Nissan’s exterior dimensions to be similar to the Duster’s — 4 343mm in length and 1 921mm in width, with a wheelbase spanning 2 657mm.

Nissan Tekton SA launch date

Nissan’s local arm has yet to announce when the Tekton, which will be officially revealed in early February, will launch in SA. However, we expect that the Duster-based model will likely arrive here towards the end of the year, following its expected mid-2026 market launch in India.

When the Nissan Tekton arrives here, a fair bet would be that the SA lineup will be offered with the same powertrain options available with the local Duster range. As a reminder, this includes a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 113kW and 250Nm of torque, and a 1.2-litre turbo-triple petrol-electric unit. The latter, hybrid arrangement is endowed with 96kW and 230Nm, exclusively delivered to all four corners via a six-speed manual gearbox. The non-electrified powertrain drives the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
