Taxi driver flees after crash

Rescue crews had to use specialised equipment to free the deceased from the wreckage.

At least six people were injured and one person was killed in a crash between a taxi and vehicle on Zuurbekom Road in Randfontein on the weekend.
The taxi driver reportedly fled the scene, Randfontein Herald reported.
The accident took place at about 8.04pm.
Allegations that the driver of the minibus taxi fled from the scene are being investigated.

Netcare 911 paramedics were informed and responded, but they found that the male driver of the vehicle had died of his injuries.

Rescue crews had to use specialised equipment to free the deceased from the wreckage, said Nicholas Dollman, Netcare 911 spokesperson.

“Six other people sustained a variety of injuries and were transported by Netcare 911 and other ambulances to different hospitals in the area.”

Dollman also said various emergency services attended the incident, including the police.

Investigations are ongoing.
