UPDATE: Reward offered to nab dog beater

The dog’s gut-wrenching cries could be heard echoing for miles.

A huge reward has been issued for any information on a man seen abusing a dog in a video that emerged last week, Comaro Chronicle reports.

The video surfaced last week and immediately got the attention of the Soweto Animal Rescue and Advisory Centre in Johannesburg.

The centre, which has spearheaded a hunt for the brutal dog abuser, has offered a reward of R5 000 for any information on the culprit that may lead to the arrest of the suspect.

“We appeal to any member of the public who might know the identity of the suspect to contact our anonymous and confidential number on 084 911 9459 with any information which could lead to his arrest. We are confident he will soon be captured and the dog saved,” said the statement.

The video, which is brutally graphic, shows a man holding a cross-terrier with his left hand and beating it with his right. The man keeps on striking the dog despite the dog’s desperate yelps.

After battering the dog, the man throws it to the ground. The dog lands on its back, still yelping and somehow gets on its feet to make the escape.

According to Soweto Animal Rescue’s Jerry Selwane the man is now also wanted by the police.

Anyone with information on the footage can also contact Selwane on Facebook at Soweto Animal Rescue and Advisory Centre or reach him on 084 911 9459.
