Police launch manhunt for dangerous armed robbers in Pretoria

Investigations are expected to reveal whether there was any cash stolen during the attack.

Silverton police have launched a manhunt following an attack on a cash-in-transit vehicle along Petroleum Road in Watloo, Silverton, on Tuesday night.

It is believed that a group of about 14 suspects driving in at least three vehicles, a Mercedes Benz, Toyota Fortuner and a BMW fired shots and forced the cash-in-transit vehicle off the road before using explosives on the vehicle.

Police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela said the Toyota Fortuner was recovered at the scene.

“Information suggests that the driver of the cash-in-transit vehicle was assaulted during the attack and is being treated at a local hospital,” Mavimbela said.

He added that investigations were expected to reveal whether there was any cash stolen during the attack.

The police asked that anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects, may call Crime Stop anonymously on 08600 10111 or SMS Crime Line on 32211.
