A Limpopo woman who was allegedly run over by a well-known senior government official in Limpopo was laid to rest on Saturday.
Nzalama Vedick Mlomdobozi, 36, was killed after her boyfriend allegedly ran his car over her during an argument over a text message. The suspected gender based violence incident happened in Polokwane a fortnight ago.
“An argument ensued in the room after the suspect saw a message on Mlomdobozi’s cellphone wishing her good night. A few minutes later, a war of words erupted. It later moved outside the room. Later, when we checked in the room, we found broken glasses and a water kettle, ” said a source close to the couple.
Police are investigating the incident and have not commented on the details of the case.
“A postmortem is still to be conducted to establish the cause of the woman’s death. No arrest has been made up to now and necessary statements are being obtained,” said police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
Ledwaba said that as soon as investigations are complete, the docket will be handed to prosecutors to make a decision.
‘We fear for our lives’
A distraught family member told The Citizen they were heartbroken by Mlondobozi’s tragic death.
“Burying your child as a parent is one thing, but having to deal with the fact that her [alleged] murderer is out there, walking freely without facing the might of the law, is another painful experience,” the family member said.
Another relative, who also spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation, called on the police to arrest the suspect.
“We are not sleeping every night in fear of our lives,” said the source.
