Kevin Anderson climbs to career-best ranking

South Africa's top tennis player Kevin Anderson has climbed one rung to a career-high 17th in the latest ATP World Tour singles rankings, released on Monday.

Anderson reached the fourth round of Wimbledon where he lost 4-6, 3-6, 6-7(6) to then defending champion Andy Murray in a rain-affected Centre Court match last week.

In the world doubles rankings, South Africa’s Raven Klaasen shot three places up to 22nd, a career best for him.

Klaasen and his American doubles partner Eric Butorac, bowed out in the round of 16 at Wimbledon, losing to French pair Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-7(4), 3-6.

In the women’s singles rankings, Chanelle Scheepers moved up 14 places to 80th on the standings, still a far cry from her career best 37 in 2011.

She reached round two of Wimbledon where top seed and world number one Serena Williams cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over the South African.
