Car accidents leave at least five dead in Mpumalanga

A sedan driver died when the vehicle he was driving overturned, while a pedestrian was struck by a truck, among other road fatalities in the province.


Three people have died after the vehicles they were travelling in collided on Sunday morning on the R568 Road between Vaalbank and KwaMhlanga, in Mpumalanga.

A Polo sedan and a bakkie were involved, and the Polo burst into flames after the impact, Mpumalanga News reported.

Due to poor visibility, another sedan approached and collided with the bakkie. Both drivers of the bakkie and Polo as well as the passenger from the Polo died on the scene.

Two more people died yesterday morning on the N4 Road in two separate incidents.

A sedan driver died when the vehicle he was driving overturned near Tenbush, in the Komatipoort, area while a pedestrian was struck by a truck at the Lebombo Border Post.

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Pat Ngomane sends condolences to the families of the deceased.

He also pleads to motorists to be cautious on the road and calls for law enforcement to arrest those who disobey the rules of the road.
