DA files perjury case against Zuma

The DA will lay a charge of perjury against Zuma for his ‘sinister attempt’ to mislead the courts, the party said.

President Jacob Zuma faces further legal woes after the DA laid a charge against him on Thursday, Pretoria East Rekord reports.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane said the party believed Zuma had a strong perjury case to answer for misleading the court.

This follows a judgment by Judge Dunstan Mlambo on Wednesday in which he dismissed, with costs, Zuma’s application to review the state of capture report, and its recommendations, released by former public protector Thuli Madonsela.

Initially, Zuma had sought to halt the release of the report, claiming he had not been consulted.

The court found this to be untrue as records showed attempts were made to get his response to the allegations that he was involved in the alleged state capture by the Gupta family.

The president then challenged Madonsela’s recommendation that chief justice Mogoeng Mogoeng appoint a judge to preside over the commission of inquiry into state capture.

“The DA will be laying criminal charges of perjury against Zuma relating to his ‘sinister attempt’ to mislead the courts, abuse judicial process, and ultimately undermine the law and the Constitution,” Maimane said in a statement.

The party said it would open the case at the Rosebank police station.
