Phalatse vs Steenhuisen: Both hopefuls say the DA’s time is now

The race is now on for the federal leader position between incumbent DA leader John Steenhuisen and former Mayor of Joburg Mpho Phalatse.

It remains to be seen who will emerge victorious as the Democratic Alliance’s leader and who will lead the party into the 2024 national elections.

Retired journalist Jeremy Gordin presumed dead in home invasion

Gauteng Police are investigating a case of house robbery and murder in which a 70-year-old man was killed.

While police won’t confirm the identity of the man, its been reported the deceased is retired journalist Jeremy Gordin.

“No arrests have been made yet, but an investigation and manhunt for the suspect is underway.

Police are also still establishing what was taken from the house and points of entry.

As members of the opposition party, the Democratic Alliance, prepare to vote for a new leader, the blue party’s former chief whip, Natasha Mazzone, reflected on the glaring exodus of black leaders.

During an interview with veteran news anchor Iman Rapetti, in which Mazzone was asked about the morale of members since the departure of former leader Mmusi Maimane, Mazzone acknowledged the party had gone through darker times.

Durban: Police shot and killed five suspected drug dealers

KwaZulu-Natal police shot and killed five suspected drug dealers in Morningside in Durban on Saturday afternoon.

The officers believe they have “broken the back” of a syndicate behind a spate of shootings and drug related crimes in the province.

The operation began when police arrested a suspected drug dealer on Saturday morning during an intelligence driven operation.

Minister in the Presidency responsible for Electricity, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, has made an impassioned plea to South Africans, asking the nation to donate their braai coals to ailing parastatal Eskom.

He was visiting the Matla and Komati Power Stations when he made the request.
