A 24-year-old suspect has been arrested in his Kingsway home near Modderbee, in Benoni, on the East Rand.
Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson Captain Ramothakhi Maqabe said it was alleged the victim, believed to be in her 20s, met the suspect through Facebook a few weeks ago, Benoni City Times reported.
“On May 22, the man allegedly sent the woman transport money for them to meet in person,” said Maqabe.
“The two met later that day at the Kingsway taxi rank and went to the suspect’s house.”
Maqabe added the suspect told a friend the next day he had done something bad and asked the friend to call the police.
Upon the police’s arrival at the suspect’s home, they found the woman’s body.
Police said it is unclear how the victim died.
