By Bianca Pindral

Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng MEC for education, has expressed his concern over two schools that were damaged by the tornado that hit Gauteng on Monday, October 9, Krugersdorp News reports.

“We immediately dispatched our Infrastructure Inspectors to both schools to assess the extent of the damages, which they estimate will cost about R4 million to repair. The department, working with all relevant stakeholders will move swiftly in appointing the Service Providers to repair the damages,” Lesufi said.

Lesufi also expressed his concern about the time at which the tragedy happened, saying that it happened at “a crucial time when our learners are busy preparing for their final exams. We can confirm that there was no teaching and learning at either school from 10 October”.

“We would like to apologise to our learners, educators and employees at schools for the inconvenience caused. We will continue to monitor the situation.”
