During Magaqa’s funeral service which was held in Umthimkhulu, Kwa-Zulu Natal today, his uncle was candid as he relayed what he and the family believe was the reason for his nephew’s assassination.

The funeral service was attended by several ANC dignitaries including Zweli Mkhize, Malusi Gigaba, Nomvula Mokonyane and Lindiwe Zulu.

Magaqa succumbed to his injuries after being shot 15 times outside a store in the area where he was a councilor on July 13. Two men who were also shot with Magaqa are fighting for their lives in hospital.

While delivering a speech, Magaqa’s friend Less Stuta revealed how the former ANCYL leader had been working on documents related to  tender to build a community hall in the area. He then noticed how the amounts were not adding up and was in the process of exposing the corruption he suspected was taking place.

According to Times LIVE, Magaqa’s uncle said that his nephew was killed because of the upcoming ANC conference in December.

“We love the comrades [the ANC] but when they do this‚ we are scared. Everything points to December [the ANC’s national elective conference]‚” he said.
