Eastern Cape cops seek help in hit-and-run case

The driver failed to stop at the scene of the accident, and the pedestrian died at the scene.


Uitenhage police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a hit-and-run accident in which a male pedestrian died in the early hours of Sunday morning, Eastern Cape police said.

It was alleged that a blue Volkswagen Up, travelling in Caledon Street, Uitenhage in the direction of Despatch, hit a pedestrian at about 3am, police said in a statement.

The driver failed to stop at the scene of the accident and the pedestrian, Rowan de Vos, 31, from Gerald Smith in Uitenhage, died at the scene.

Police urged anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect to contact the investigating officer Sergeant Aretha Sam at 041-996-4500 or Crime Stop 08600-10111.
