It was alleged that a blue Volkswagen Up, travelling in Caledon Street, Uitenhage in the direction of Despatch, hit a pedestrian at about 3am, police said in a statement.

The driver failed to stop at the scene of the accident and the pedestrian, Rowan de Vos, 31, from Gerald Smith in Uitenhage, died at the scene.
