Man strips own vehicle before reporting ‘hijacking’ to police

Police received information from a witness who alleges he saw the suspect remove parts from his vehicle.

Kempton Park SAPS arrested a suspect on perjury charges on Saturday, after reporting a fake hijacking, reports Kempton Express.

It is alleged the 45-year-old suspect went to Kempton Park Police Station and reported a car hijacking, but had in fact stripped his own vehicle of parts before doing so.

“The suspect alleged he was robbed of his white Toyota Quantum at gunpoint,” said Sgt Dipuo Ditshego, deputy spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.

“Minutes after the hijacking case was opened, someone else walked into the charge office and told police the suspect faked that he was hijacked, and that they saw him strip his vehicle and remove the gearbox and tyres, among other things.”

The suspect was arrested on the same day he reported the ‘hijacking’.
