DA accused of awarding alleged 28s gang boss’s wife R40m housing contract
The party has hit back at a 'shocked and outraged' ANC, saying the contract was cleared by national government and Sars.

The wife of Ralph Stanfield, who is suspected of being the leader of the notorious 28s gang, has allegedly been awarded a housing contract to the tune of R40 million, with the ANC placing the blame at the feet of the DA, Daily Voice has reported.
ANC Western Cape secretary Faiez Jacobs said: “We are shocked and outraged that the City of Cape Town has awarded a multimillion-rand contract to the wife of gang leader Ralph Stanfield to build houses in Valhalla Park.
“We see this as further evidence of the cosy relationship between the DA and the underworld.”
The DA, however, said the contract was cleared by three government organisations, including the South African Revenue Services (Sars).

The Daily Voice has previously reported that a R42 million housing development on Valhalla Drive, which Jacobs described as a “known DA stronghold” was stalled, with the 28s gang accused of demanding protection money from the city of Cape Town and the contractor involved in building the development.
DA spokesperson Solly Malatsi had not yet responded to requests for comment at the time of publication.
Ralph Stanfield, who is the nephew of the late Colin Stanfield – a man believed to be the former leader of the 28s gang – survived a “hit” in Johannesburg in 2017.
Last year, he was listed as one of 23 accused, along with three police officers, who face 109 charges related to allegations that officers at the SA Police Service Central Firearms Registry helped arm gangsters and drug kingpins in the Western Cape.
