Lion’s Head wildfire finally under control

Firefighters are reportedly extinguishing one more active fire line, but the majority of the blaze has been controlled.

Fires raged in Cape Town on Sunday, with blazes lighting up Kloof Nek Road, Signal Hill, and Fresnaye, before moving towards Lion’s Head, reports EWN.

Reports indicate that the fires are under control, as of Monday morning.

No official evacuations were ordered, but some residents did decide to evacuate their homes after the fire threatened to burn infrastructure.

Strong south-easterly winds of 45km/h fueled the relentless blaze last night, with reports indicating that up to 80 firefighters, including aerial support, were on the scene.

The fire is contained for now, and the cause for the destructive fire has not yet been isolated.

According to EWN, firefighters are reportedly extinguishing one active fire line burning in the direction of Kloof Road, and are using helicopters to douse the flames.

Residents are urged to be on high alert.
