Donald Trump to have a telephonic conversation with Zuma today

The Presidency has confirmed that the head of the US is set to call President Jacob Zuma for a chat.

Newly elected US president Trump will be touching base with his African counterparts, Zuma and Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria.

The presidency tweeted a statement this afternoon.

No details were released on what the agenda of their conversation would be, though Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa said he was hopeful Trump would have a positive disposition towards the country.

Speaking to the African News Agency (ANA) on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Ramaphosa added that the hope was that “we should have policies that will prosper the people of the United States, as they prosper the people of Africa”.

He said: “Anything that will help the prosperity of all our people should be supported.”
