Limpopo cops seek info after officer robbed of service pistol
Limpopo police are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of six suspects who attacked and robbed a 43-year-old detective sergeant of his service pistol and other items late on Friday night.
The officer was stationed at Lydenburg police station in Mpumalanga, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo said in a statement.
“It is alleged the victim was with a female companion when he parked his vehicle along the dirt road at Ditwebeleng village in [the] Mecklenburg policing area.”
Six unknown suspects armed with a rifle accosted the pair, tied them up with shoe laces, and drove the vehicle into nearby bushes where they robbed the officer of about R700, a cellphone, a car music system, and his service pistol. The woman was robbed of a wedding ring.
The suspects drove off in a Nissan NP200. No shots were fired. Anybody with information was requested to contact the nearest police station.
