“Upon arrival, paramedics were led into a bedroom in the home. An elderly man was found lying in his bed.

“Paramedics assessed him and found that he had sustained a gunshot wound to his head, leaving him in a critical condition.

“Treatment and advanced life support interventions were immediately initiated in an effort to stabilise his vital signs. Once treated, the man was airlifted by the ER24 Oneplan Medical Helicopter to Baragwanath Provincial Hospital for further treatment,” Meiring said.

Although details surrounding the incident were unclear yesterday, it has emerged that an eight-year-old child allegedly shot the elderly man.

A case of attempted murder has been opened for further investigation.

The man is said to be in a stable condition.
