EFF distances itself from ‘members’ calling on Malema to apologise

Recent comments by EFF members in KZN who've chosen the king over their leader have caused a right royal mess.

The EFF in uThungulu has distanced itself from statements made by its former regional chairperson Bheki Shabane, regarding party chair Julius Malema and His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini KaBhekuzulu, Zululand Observer reports.

In an article published in the Zululand Observer on 13 April, Shabane accused Malema of showing disrespect to the Zulu monarch when he said that “he feared nobody – not even the king” during an eNCA interview.

He immediately called on Malema to apologise to King Zwelithini for insulting him, warning the party leader “not to set foot in this province” before he did so.

But uThungulu’s regional EFF convener, Rebecca Mohlala, on Friday said that Shabane was not an official of EFF “in any structures, regional, provincial or national” and that if he had anything to say, he knew to “follow the internal processes of the organisation”.

“Mr Shabane is not even a member of EFF because his membership expired and was never renewed.”
