WATCH: Driver runs over security guard in Stellenbosch shopping complex

The driver went in the wrong direction and was approached by the guard, but instead of turning around, he ran him over and sped away.

Footage of a disturbing hit-and-run incident that took place in the Western Cape has emerged on Twitter.

The footage was shared on Monday night, allegedly taken at Die Boord shopping centre in Stellenbosch.

The footage starts with a white Opel Corsa Utility parking in the parking lot. He later reverses out of his parking spot, but in the wrong direction, as it is a clearly marked as a one-way.

The security guard on duty makes his way to the car, presumably to tell him to turn around and follow the rules of the parking lot.

The car continues to edge forward, determined to get past the guard, who can be seen gesturing to go around the other side of the parking lot. The driver then abruptly drives forward, runs over the security guard, and speeds away.

Other cars stop in shock, and a woman walking past the incident can be seen trying to run after the bakkie.

Die Boord shopping centre is owned by Ipic Group, who refused to comment when The Citizen asked them about the incident. SuperSpar management also refused to comment. However, it has been reported by 702 that the security guard suffered only minor injuries and has been released from hospital.

The driver has reportedly been arrested, but this has not been confirmed.
