What are your local supermarkets doing about products linked to listeriosis?

Following the Minister of Health’s announcement yesterday on the source of the listeria outbreak, local supermarkets have responded by recalling certain products, North Coast Courier reports.

Pick n Pay released a statement saying that they acted immediately to withdraw all products from the manufacturing sites identified by the Department of Health.

Enterprise and Rainbow Chicken Limited products were identified as the manufacturers of products which tested positive for listeriosis. These companies supply a very broad range of retailers across South Africa. All Enterprise products (including the Bokkie, Renown, Lifestyle and Mieliekip brands) have already been recalled by the company concerned.

Pick n Pay said: ”We are urgently withdrawing them from our stores. In addition, all ready-to-eat products such as polony and russian sausages manufactured at the Rainbow facility in Sasolburg are also being withdrawn.”

Woolworths South Africa also released a statement: “We proactively manage food safety but as an added precaution, given the Dept of Health’s announcement on the source of the listeriosis outbreak, we’re recalling some viennas and cold meats.”
