Minister’s ex-husband gets house, R4m in divorce settlement

The ex-husband will also keep the couple's furniture, including a bedroom suite and a round table in their bedroom.

The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Tuesday annulled a Cabinet minister and former premier’s marriage of 20 years.

As part of the settlement, the ex-husband will get more than R4 million of the minister’s pension and one of the minister’s homes in North West, while the minister keeps their home in Waterkloof, Pretoria, The Sowetan has reported.

The minister will be liable for the payment of the outstanding R1.3 million owing to Absa in bond, and also pay the ex-husband an amount of R1.5 million.

“To facilitate the payment the payment of the R1.3 million and R1.5 million, the court ordered the ex-husband shall be entitled to a gross amount of R4.1 million from pension interest in the Government Employees Pension Fund.

“The ex-husband will be required to hand back a BMW 530i sedan, which is registered under the minister’s name and has been paid in full,” the settlement was quoted by the publication.

The ex-husband will reportedly also keep the couple’s furniture, including a bedroom suite, a round table in their bedroom, a dining room suite and cameras at his house, to name a few.

The ex-husband reportedly told the court that his marriage of 20 years practically ended in 2015, as they stopped living together then and had not seen each other since.

The couple cannot be identified for legal purposes.
