In the quest to fight crime and other social ills, the Ekurhuleni metro opened a multimillion-rand police precinct in Zonkizizwe last Tuesday, reports the Germiston City News.
The ceremony was overseen by MMC of Community Safety councillor Vivian Chauke and acting chief of police Major-General Jabulani Mapiyeye.
Addressing the community, Chauke said the precinct represented a step closer in winning the fight against crime.
She warned those who did not comply with the metro’s bylaws to refrain from doing so.

“One of our key duties is ensuring that there is not just law and order, we must instill confidence in our people about safety and security interventions put in place.
“We also want to use the precinct to stop the disconnect between communities and our law enforcers,” said Chauke.
Pastor Paul Sikhosana, an elder from Palm Ridge Extension Five, welcomed the initiative.
“This precinct will help us in many ways, as we don’t have a police station in close proximity.
“Previously, we reported cases at the Eden Park Police Station.
“We are happy we will not no longer be walking long distances to get help,” he said.
