It’s Ramaphosa who will disrupt Sona, not the EFF – Mpofu

The party says the president knows what to do to ensure a smooth state of the nation address.

Economic Freedom Fighters national chairperson Dali Mpofu said his party should not be blamed for how they react during President Cyril Ramaphosa’s state of the nation address if he ignores the EFF’s call for him to address his Bosasa “donation”.

Responding to a question from a journalist during yesterday’s media briefing on the Sona set to be held on Thursday, National Assembly speaker Baleka Mbete and National Council of Provinces chairperson Thandi Modise said no “extraordinary measures” had been put in place as they were not expecting any disruptions.

This comes despite the EFF’s earlier call to turn the Sona into a Q&A session should the president not address the Bosasa “donation” before he went to parliament. Mbete said the EFF had not communicated with her on the matter.

In an interview with SAfm on Friday, Mpofu said that should there be any disruptions, Ramaphosa would be to blame as he had the solution to the party’s problem.

“Ramaphosa will be the one disrupting the Sona because we cannot sit when we have a president who has lied. We cannot be addressed by someone on serious matters of the state when he has committed an impeachable offense. So, if Ramaphosa continues without addressing the Bosasa matter, he will be the one disrupting the Sona.”

Mpofu further spoke about the media’s intention to “paint us as all the corrupt parties”. He said his party had been asking the media to present evidence on its alleged corruption but none of them apparently came forward. Now the party’s critics suffered a huge blow after Angelo Agrizzi did not mention the party as having benefited from Bosasa, added Mpofu.

“There is a feeling of dejection among our detractors because in all the major scandals – be it Nkandla, Guptas, state capture – EFF and the leadership is not involved in any of them. So there is a deliberate smear campaign on the EFF.”
