RAF national crisis demands urgent action – expert
A botched escape from the law was caught on film in Pretoria, where a seemingly intoxicated man crashed his Ford Mustang while trying to flee an arrest by the Tshwane metro (TMPD) police officers.
In a video that has since gone viral, the man is seen fighting off TMPD officers when they tried to drag him out of his luxury car at a Caltex petrol station in Capital Park.
“F*** off here!” the man, who was topless, is heard saying, as he resists getting out of the car. After managing to close his door, the man drives off, nearly crashing into a bystander.
But his arrogant escape ended up in a head-on collision, when he rammed into a bakkie. Even though he was barricaded by the vehicle he crashed into, the man continued to accelerate into the bakkie. A bystander is heard saying: “This man is on drugs!”
After being pulled out of the car, the man passes out on the floor while being handcuffed by TMPD officers.
TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the incident happened on Saturday at the corner of Marlherbe and Paul Kruger streets.
He said the 42-year-old suspect was arrested when TMPD officers on patrol responded to an alert by petrol attendants of a “client that was difficult”.
“The man was arrested for negligent driving and possession of dangerous weapon. The suspect had minor injuries, and our members were on duty and doing patrols around those areas. When they drove near the garage, they were alerted by petrol attendants to assist them with a difficult client.”
