We don’t allow same-sex couples, says Brakpan restaurant
A video shows a gay couple being told at the door that the restaurant allows only a man and a woman at a table on date nights.

The Lake Restaurant in Brakpan, on the East Rand, has refused entry to a couple based on their sexual orientation, saying Thursdays were for heterosexual couples only.
EWN caught wind of the discriminatory rule, so they followed two men who made a reservation at the restaurant and presented themselves as a gay couple. They were met by a man at the door who told them they were not allowed in.
After going through the payment details, a video taken by EWN shows the man at the door asking the couple if they were a same-sex couple, to which they responded with a “yes”.
“The message says we don’t allow same sex couples. It’s not that we discriminate, but on our Thursdays, we have that it is set that way. Any other day, gay people come. Any day Monday to Friday to Sunday. Our Thursdays are like that. No single people. We only allow a man and a woman at a table.”

Another employee then comes out and tells the couple to come on any other day except for Thursdays.
When one makes a booking, upfront payment of R450 is required within 12 hours to confirm the booking. No “joined tables (sic)”, no “same-sex couple of people”, no children, no T-shirt or tekkies and no refund on a cancelled reservation allowed.
The employee told the couple they were in the wrong because they knew the rules of their Thursday Date Nights before they went to the restaurant.
