The South African Weather Service (Saws) has released its latest weather forecast for Thursday, 8 May 2025.
Fine and warm weather is expected across most provinces, while coastal regions brace for weekend wind and wave warnings. Here’s what you need to know.
The weather service hasn’t issued any severe weather warnings for Thursdaybut it has issued a yellow level 4 warning for damaging winds leading to difficulty in navigation at sea, and possible damage to informal settlements is expected between Table Bay and Plettenberg Bay from Friday until Saturday.
A yellow level 4 warning for damaging waves leading to difficulty in navigation at sea for small vessels and personal watercraft was also issued between Table Bay and Plettenberg Bay from Saturday until Sunday.
Strong to gale-force NW winds are expected in places over Chris Hani and Joe Gqabi District Municipalities of the Eastern Cape, southern parts of the Free State, the interior of the Western Cape, as well as the southern interior of the Northern Cape on Saturday, while strong to gale-force W/SW winds together with very rough seas are expected in places along the south coast between Plettenberg Bay and Peddie on Saturday into Sunday.

Gauteng:
Residents of Gauteng can expect early morning fog patches in the south; otherwise, the weather will be fine and cool to warm.
The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “very high”.
Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.
Mpumalanga:
Mpumalanga residents can expect fine and cool to warm conditions.
Limpopo:
The day will start with early morning fog in places over the Western Bushveld; otherwise, it will be fine and warm.
North West:
Fine and warm weather awaits North West residents.
Free State:
Residents of the Free State will experience fine and cool but warm weather in the west.
Northern Cape:
The day will be windy in places in the east; otherwise, it will be fine and warm but cool in the southwest.
Western Cape:
Western Cape residents can expect cloudy conditions with fog patches along the coast and adjacent interior in the morning, where it will be cool in places; otherwise, it will be fine and warm.
Eastern Cape (western half):
It will be fine and cool to warm but cloudy in places in the south with a chance of light rain in places east of Cannon Rocks.
Eastern Cape (eastern half):
The day will be fine and cool to warm but cloudy in the southwest with a chance of light rain in places, spreading east in the evening.
KwaZulu-Natal:
Residents of KwaZulu-Natal can look forward to fine and cool weather but warm in the northeast. It will be becoming cloudy in the east in the afternoon with isolated light showers and rain along the coast and adjacent interior.
The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “high”.
Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.
