The South African Weather Service (Saws) has released its latest weather forecast for Friday, 16 May 2025.
Fire warnings are in place for Beaufort West and Laingsburg, with heat wave conditions expected in Richtersveld, Northern Cape. Here’s what you need to know.

Fire danger warnings
The weather service has warned of extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over Beaufort West and Laingsburg municipalities in the Western Cape.
Advisories
Saws also warned that a heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected over the Richtersveld Municipality of the Northern Cape.

Provincial weather forecast
Here’s what to expect in your province on Friday, 16 May:
Gauteng:
Residents of Gauteng can expect early morning fog in places; otherwise, the weather will be partly cloudy and cool.
The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “high”.
Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.
Mpumalanga:
Mpumalanga residents can expect morning fog patches along the escarpment; otherwise, conditions will be fine and cool, but partly cloudy in the east. It will be warm in the Lowveld.
Limpopo:
The day will be partly cloudy and cool to warm, but cloudy in the north with isolated showers and rain in the northeast.
North West:
Partly cloudy weather awaits North West residents in the east; otherwise, it will be fine and cool.
Free State:
Residents of the Free State will experience partly cloudy conditions in the east; otherwise, it will be fine and cool.
Northern Cape:
The day will be fine and cool to warm but hot to very hot in the extreme western parts.
Western Cape:
Western Cape residents can expect morning fog in places in the south and again in the southwest from the evening; otherwise, it will be fine and warm to hot but partly cloudy along the south coastline.

Eastern Cape (western half):
It will be fine and warm.
Eastern Cape (eastern half):
The day will be fine and warm.
KwaZulu-Natal:
Residents of KwaZulu-Natal can look forward to morning fog patches over the northern interior; otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and cool but warm in the east.
The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “very high”.
Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.
