The South African Weather Service (Saws) has released its latest weather forecast for Thursday, 29 May 2025.

Damaging winds and waves are expected between Saldanha Bay and Cape Agulhas in Western Cape, otherwise the day will usher in mostly fine and cool weather across the country. Here’s what you need to know.

Weather warnings, Thursday, 29 May

Impact-based warnings

The weather service has issued a yellow level 2 warning for damaging wind leading to difficulty in navigation at sea, between Saldanha Bay and Cape Agulhas in the Western Cape.

Saws also issued a yellow level 2 warning for damaging waves leading to difficulty in navigation at sea between these two areas, spreading to Plettenberg Bay from Friday until Sunday.

Provincial weather forecast

Here’s what to expect in your province on Thursday, 29 May:

Gauteng:

Residents of Gauteng can expect fine and cool weather conditions.

The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “very high”.

Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.

Mpumalanga:

Mpumalanga residents can expect a fine and cool to warm day.

Limpopo:

The day will be fine and cool to warm across the province.

North West:

Fine and cool weather awaits North West residents, with windy conditions in the extreme west.

Free State:

Residents of the Free State will experience fine and cool weather, with windy conditions in the extreme west.

Northern Cape:

The day will be cloudy to partly cloudy in the west where it will be cold in places, otherwise it will be fine and cool to warm. It will be windy at times in the central and eastern parts.

Western Cape:

Western Cape residents can expect cloudy conditions over the south-western parts with isolated showers and rain, otherwise it will partly cloudy and cold to cool.

Eastern Cape (western half):

The day will be fine and cool, becoming cloudy with fog in the south-east from the evening.

Eastern Cape (eastern half):

Expect fine and cool to warm conditions, becoming cloudy with fog in places south of the escarpment from the evening.

KwaZulu-Natal:

Residents of KwaZulu-Natal will experience fine and cool but warm weather in the east.

The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “very high”.

Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.
