Showers to usher in cold front in parts of Western Cape

The weather service has warned of light rain and showers along the coast in the evening in the Western Cape.


The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned residents on parts of the Western Cape to expect a cold front this week.

According to the weather service, those in the western parts of the province should expect showers on Tuesday, ahead of a cold front.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the central and northern parts of the Northern Cape, the north-eastern parts of the Western Cape, the southern parts of the North West and Free State as well as the central and northern parts of the Eastern Cape, warned the weather service.

Tuesday’s weather forecast

Gauteng: Cloudy and cool to warm becoming partly cloudy from the afternoon. The expected UVB sunburn index: High.

Mpumalanga: Cloudy with morning fog patches along the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm.

Limpopo: Morning fog patches along the escarpment, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm.

North West: Morning fog patches in the east, otherwise cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers except over the north-east. It will become partly cloudy from the afternoon.

Free State: Morning fog patches in the east, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the south and west.

Northern Cape: Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers, except in the and south-west where it will be fine but scattered in the extreme east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly becoming light and variable towards the end of the period.

Western Cape: Partly cloudy and warm to hot but cloudy and cool in the south-west with light rain and showers along the coast in the evening. The wind along the coast will be Light and variable in the south at first, otherwise moderate to fresh south-westerly The expected UVB sunburn index: High.

Western half of the Eastern Cape: Fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon in the north. The wind along the coast will be moderate Easterly becoming fresh to strong south-westerly in the afternoon to evening.

Eastern half of the Eastern Cape: Morning fog to the south of the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated thunderstorms except the coast. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong easterly.

KwaZulu-Natal: Partly cloudy fine and warm. The wind along the coast will be Gentle south-westerly in the north in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh north-easterly. The expected UVB sunburn index: High.
