Light rain expected in parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo

Extremely high fire danger conditions are also expected over the Matzikama Local Municipality in the Western Cape.

Light rain is expected along the escarpment of Limpopo as well as the northern parts of Mpumalanga on Wednesday, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) warned on Tuesday.

Earlier today, the weather service issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms in Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga until 11pm.

“An upper air trough will dominate the north-eastern parts, sending perturbations eastwards, while a surface high in the east will continue advecting low-level moisture into the eastern parts,” warned the weather service.

“From the above, we can expect a band of showers and thundershowers over the eastern parts, with enhanced development along the escarpment and eastern Highveld where severe thunderstorms are expected.”

Extremely high fire danger conditions are also expected over the Matzikama Local Municipality in the Western Cape.
