WEATHER: Disruptive waves – Beware of being swept off to sea

Be safe out there! These weather conditions could lead to potential dangers for coastal users.

A Yellow level 1 warning for disruptive waves has been issued for the Western Cape, affecting the coastline between Cape Columbine and Plettenberg Bay.

The weather alert is active from today, [Saturday] 29 April until 30 April at 10 am. Here’s what you need to know and how to stay safe.

Weather alert: Disruptive waves

The South African Weather Service (Saws) warns of southwesterly swells of 4 to 5 meters in height and a period of 15 seconds, which are expected to cause disruptions along the coast.

These conditions pose a significant risk to beachfront activities and coastal users, with individuals potentially being swept off rocks.

The warning highlights the possibility of localised disruptions to beachfront activities, as well as the danger for anglers on low-lying rocks who may be caught off guard by high-energy waves.

Beware of being swept off to sea

Residents living along the coastal regions, and those participating in beachfront activities, should exercise caution when out and about.

Stay especially vigilant when traversing low-lying rocks, as the risk of being swept off to sea will be considerably higher today and tomorrow.

The weather service warns residents to stay safe and remain alert at all times.

Stay up to date with the latest weather alerts and conditions by monitoring local news outlets and the weather service’s updates.
